Update on Patreon Funding Model

Let me start by saying this: we are very pleased to hear the results of the Epic Games vs Apple court ruling in May 2025, and how this allows Patreon to maintain the current per-post funding model. This is excellent news for AniDB!

Non-US Patreon Users using iOS

AniDB has many non-US Patreon users. If you are one of them, we ask that you join AniDB's creator page using the Patreon website, and not the iOS app, to ensure that you're able to continue supporting AniDB.

Doing so will ensure that your support for AniDB is uninterrupted as Patreon migrates non-US users into an Apple-compliant state this November 2025.

For those that don't remember, last December, I had shared in my post here on the impact of changes coming to the Patreon platform due to the Apple iOS payment issue, and what that means for AniDB financially. In a nutshell, to comply with Apple's App Store policy, Patreon was going to eliminate the per-post funding model that AniDB uses.

Now that Apple has lost this court case, Patreon has confirmed that the per-post funding model will stay. The only exception is that international (non-US) Patreon users cannot subscribe to a per-post creator through the iOS app. International Patreon users will need to subscribe via the Patreon website to support per-post creators like AniDB.

Fall Banner Contest

Having said all this, now that we can remain on a per-post funding model, we will be able to continue with the AniDB banner contest! Based on current funding, the next contest will likely be this fall, in October or November. Stay tuned!

conspiracyThe conspiracy thriller (or paranoid thriller) is a sub-genre of the thriller which flourished in the 1970s in the US (and was echoed in other parts of the world) in the wake of a number of high-profile scandals and controversies (most notably Vietnam, the assassination of President Kennedy, Chappaquiddick and Watergate), and which exposed what many people regarded as the clandestine machinations and conspiracies beneath the orderly fabric of political life. The protagonists of conspiracy thrillers are often journalists or amateur investigators who find themselves (often inadvertently) pulling on a small thread which unravels a vast conspiracy that ultimately goes "all the way to the top"., militaryThe military, also known as the armed forces, are forces authorized and legally entitled to use deadly force so as to support the interests of the state and its citizens. The task of the military is usually defined as defence of the state and its citizens and the prosecution of war against foreign powers. The military may also have additional functions within a society, including construction, emergency services, social ceremonies, and guarding critical areas., novelA novel is a relatively long work of narrative fiction, normally written in prose form, and which is typically published as a book. Manga, comics, or visual novels do not fit this description and are not considered novels; including a small number of illustrations, however, is still permissible, which means that light novels are considered novels., science fictionScience fiction stories usually focus on how situations could be different in the future when we are more technologically advanced; due to either our own achievements or having met with other civilizations whom we have learned from., seinenSeinen, literally "young man", is one of the main demographic classifications applied to manga, and, by extension, to anime, especially manga-based ones. As the name implies, seinen works are marketed primarily to an audience of young men; the age range commonly understood to be the target of such works goes roughly from 17 to somewhere in the 40s., space travelSpace Travel usually refers going to space or travelling there with or without a spacecraft. There are different forms of space travel like Interplanetary travel, Interstellar travel or Intergalactic travel. Since it isn`t possible to travel faster than light, most anime series involve some sort "sub-space travel mechanism" as a way to travel faster than light., violenceViolence is the use of physical force against oneself or another entity, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt.
TV Series, 2023-2024, 24 eps, 9.49 (1755), 8.59 (1776)
daily lifeThe antics of the protagonists do not take place in some exotic setting or time, but in everyday life. Daily Life is basically a synonym for everything normal, repetitive, and trivial happening to your average person., detectiveA detective is an investigator, generally either a member of a law enforcement agency or as an individual working in the capacity of private investigators, tasked with solving crimes and other mysteries, such as disappearances, by examining and evaluating clues and records in order to solve the mystery; for a crime, this would mean uncovering the criminal`s identity and/or whereabouts., historicalHistorical anime have clear ties to our history and usually occur in a particular epoch., joseiIn the context of manga and associated media, the word josei refers to a female audience roughly between the ages of 15 and 44. In Japanese, the word means simply "woman", and has no anime/manga-related connotations at all. It does not comprise a style or a genre per se, but rather indicates the publisher`s intended target demographic., medium breastsMedium breasts are breasts that have a moderate size but aren`t overly big like large breasts. Medium breasts are what would be considered normal size in real life, whereas below average sized breasts are called small breasts., novelA novel is a relatively long work of narrative fiction, normally written in prose form, and which is typically published as a book. adventureAdventures are exciting stories, designed to provide an action-filled, energetic experience for the viewer. Rather than the predominant emphasis on violence and fighting, the viewer of adventures can live vicariously through the travels, conquests, explorations, creation of empires, struggles and situations that confront the main characters. Adventure films are often, but not always, set in an historical period., contemporary fantasyMagic and supernatural beings exist secretly in what is generally regarded as the real world. Such elements may have originated from another world. Stories where a modern-day character travels to an alternate fantasy world are not considered contemporary fantasy., human enhancementHuman enhancement can take various forms: It can be something comparatively non-intrusive as a power-up drug, a form of machine implantation or cyberization ("SAC Solid State Society"), or outright - possibly atrocious - genetic manipulation ("Ao no 6-gou"). Plot-wise enhanced protagonists in anime usually have to pay a price for their enhancements, be it physical or mental., magicMagic is the art of purportedly manipulating aspects of reality either by supernatural means or through knowledge of unknown occult laws., militaryThe military, also known as the armed forces, are forces authorized and legally entitled to use deadly force so as to support the interests of the state and its citizens. comedyAnime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience. Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy., gameBased on an interactive (even if minimally so) form of entertainment software, generally available for PCs, consoles or arcade machines., science fictionScience fiction stories usually focus on how situations could be different in the future when we are more technologically advanced; due to either our own achievements or having met with other civilizations whom we have learned from., seinenSeinen, literally "young man", is one of the main demographic classifications applied to manga, and, by extension, to anime, especially manga-based ones. For clarification, visual novels are considered a sub-genre of adventure games and the term does not cover simulations.
